‘Let’s Talk Tactics’ with Micheál Donoghue

All-Ireland-winning Galway senior hurling manager Micheál Donoghue is the keynote speaker at a business breakfast seminar, entitled ‘Let’s Talk Tactics: What’s Your HR Retention Strategy for 2025’, at Atlantic Technological University Galway on Monday, January 13.

Micheál, who guided the Tribesmen to their first All-Ireland success in 29 years in 2017, is the Regional Manager at BMW Financial Services and, when it comes to strategy, the Clarinbridge native has proven track records in both sport and business.

The title of Micheál’s talk is ‘Empowering Teams’, in which he will discuss leadership, team building, and the value of a culture of learning.

Having managed the Dublin senior hurlers in recent seasons, Micheál returned to the post of Galway senior hurling manager earlier this year, and many will hope he can replicate the huge success he had in his first stint as Galway boss between 2016 and 2019.

In this time, he led Galway to National League and All-Ireland senior hurling championship honours, taking the Liam McCarthy Cup back across the Shannon in 2017 for the first time since the county’s previous victory in 1988.

Micheál, though, is no stranger to success. At inter-county, he was also part of the successful Galway minor and U21 teams that won the All-Ireland championship in 1992 and 1993 respectively. He later won a National League with Galway seniors in 1996, before injury cut his career short.

As a club hurler with his native Clarinbridge, he captained them to the 2001 Galway senior hurling championship, before managing the club to both county and All-Ireland triumphs in the 2010-2011 season.

However, his most famous day was September 3, 2017, when Galway claimed the All-Ireland senior hurling title by defeating Waterford on a 0-26 to 2-17 scoreline. It was a day when such attributes as leadership, team building, and a culture of values reaped great dividends for the Tribesmen.

In addition to Micheál talk, the MyCareerPath team will also be on hand to discuss their Careers Development Tools, while other topics to be discussed are micro-credentials, traversal skills and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

The seminar takes place in the Boardroom at ATU Galway, Dublin Road, from 8am to 9.30am on Monday, January 13, with a limited number of places still available.
